The Greene County High School Cross Country team competed Sept. 17 at the Panorama Invitational. This race on the Par 3 Golf Course is considered a true cross country course with challenging hills through a wooded setting.
“This was a very tough field of teams with several ranked teams and ranked individual runners,” said Ram coach Jeff Lamoureux. “We had a couple of our boys not 100 percent and we were missing Noah Hinote due to illness. So keeping that into perspective, finishing in the top half (seventh out of 14 teams) is promising.”
Freshman Gavyn Winters finished first among the Rams, placing 35th with a time of 20:00. senior Jayden Carstensen finished next of the Rams in 38th place with a time of 20:09. Other Ram finishes were Logan Woodruff, 44th, 20:19; Ethan Frederick, 54th, 21:12l Kolby Angell, 61st, 21:56; and Jax Carstensen, 62nd, 22:00.
Carson Houg of Des Moines Christian won the race in 16:40 followed closely by teammate Aaron Fynaardt in 16:46. The Lions won the team title with 72 points. Other team scores were AC/GC 74; Earlham 102; Clarinda 111; Ogden 120; Kuemper Catholic 192; Greene County 232; IKM-Manning 238; Van Meter 247; Southeast Valley 249; Nodaway Valley 254; Madrid 263; Tri-Center 325; Woodward Academy 414. The Ram girls had just two runners, Olivia Shannon in 57th with a time of 26:37, and Autumn Stevens in 109th with a time of 32:52. Both girls are juniors.
Mayson Hartley of Clarinda was the first place runner in 20:43. Clarinda won the team title with 71 points. Other team finishes were Van Meter 87; Des Moines Christian 88; Earlham 141; AC/GC 153; Tri-Center 157; West Central Valley 182; Kuemper Catholic 213; IKM-Manning 239; Nodaway Valley 239; Madrid 242; Ogden 245; Exira-EHK 361; Southeast Valley 77.
